Organik Recordings second proper release done again by none other than Mr Bambu!
In this fine release Mr. Bambu “Did Some Remixes” for some bands, of which certain members had been historically and musically linked to his own life. Initially they were for pure friendship and enjoyment, and when the Mercury Program (Counterflow, Stiff Slack, Tigerstyle, Kindercore, & Boxcar Records) decided to include his remix on their Japanese release of "A Data Learn The Language" on Stiff Slack, we knew it was time to include the rest of the world on the whole thing.
This EP includes the Mercury Program Megamix, Bambu takes the entire album "All The Suits Began To Fall Off" on Boxcar Records and transmutates it into a lulling, atmospherically charged, heavy hip-hop beat, where segments of different songs ebb and flow out, with delicate dubbed-out grace. It builds up to massive proportions, breaking down into a 6/8 time samba glitch-core boogie, enhancing the Mercury Program vibe to the next level.
Also included are 2 remixes for The Burgundy Romance a slow, heavy, instrumental rock band, the first remix “Burgandy Romance Remix Numero Uno” is an upbeat, funky rock jam, with Bambu laying down a viscous, groovin' bassline to compliment the slamming drums and guitar.
The second Burgundy Romance remix “Burgandy Romance Uber-Dub #Dos” is a 60 something bpm dub extravaganza, with a lone, beautiful guitar melody as the only link to the original composition. Absolute shimmering gorgeous sound with warm analog bass glides over trusty, bouncing 808 drums, dubbed to perfection.
The record rounds out with a remix of Mr Bambu's jazz band the Anti-Matter Ensemble. This is a chop and tweak workout, with jarring discordance crafted into a headbanging hip-hop treat that still manages to exude a mangled melody, until it splashes down into a swirling live improvisation by the band, complete with flute flourishes and psychedelic textures. All in all, a mighty piece of work, which has a place in every music lovers play list.
A must for fans of Dabrye, Prefuse 73, Sixtoo, DJ Signify, Flying Lotus, Stereolab, Portishead, Zero 7, Ammon Contact and Eliot Lipp.
